Story by Shara Osiro – Regional Shared Ministries Manager – Africa
It was a joy to reconnect with former Project 24 students—Hellen from Tumaini, Aznath from Rongo, and Delvine and Irene from Udom—who are now pursuing their education at the Teachers’ Training College (TTC) at Matongo. On a sunny afternoon, we gathered on the campus of Neema Theological Lutheran College (Matongo) to catch up on their progress and aspirations.
These four young women are enrolled in the Primary Teacher Education program, working diligently toward their diplomas. The program requires them to complete 24 courses, with Jennifer and Delvine currently in their second year and preparing for their teaching internships next year. Aznath and Irene, meanwhile, have just embarked on their studies, excited for the journey ahead.

While they are enjoying the program, some subjects—such as psychology, curriculum development, and arts and crafts—present unique challenges. When asked what inspired them to become teachers, Hellen and Delvine shared that they initially wanted to pursue nursing but found teaching to be a fulfilling alternative. They now hope to further their education in secondary teacher training. Aznath and Irene, on the other hand, have had a passion for teaching since childhood. All four young women are eager to step into the classroom.
Beyond their studies, these young women remain connected to their roots, returning to their respective Project 24 sites during breaks to encourage and inspire the next generation of students. Their dedication is a testament to the impact of education and mentorship. Seeing these former students now training to become teachers is a true blessing. Their journey is a reminder that with perseverance and faith, opportunities for growth and success abound.
