Project: LM0011-65024
Luke 6:36 reads, “Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.” Showing mercy is part of our identity as Christians. Therefore, it makes sense that Lutheran missions in the Latin America and Caribbean region would intentionally focus on ways to show mercy in close proximity to the preaching of the Gospel and the planting of Lutheran churches.
The Mercy Center, an institute of Concordia the Reformer Seminary, provides a launchpad for the delivery of mercy endeavors that transcend borders. Since its inception in 2017, the Mercy Center has been equipping leaders and laity in LCMS missions and partner churches to be the hands, feet, and voice of the Church for all people – including the needy, the marginalized and the oppressed.
The Mercy Center develops a new course with a practical workshop each year. As of 2025, the Spanish workshops offered include Disaster Preparation and Response; Go and Be Reconciled; Everyone His Witness; Stewardship for the Care of Souls; Teaching the Faith at Home; Lifelines of Love (Christian marriage), Women’s Health; First Aid courses; and teaching the use of Himnario Luterano: The Church Sings the Faith I and II (for congregations and musicians, respectively).
