The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began work in South Africa in 1982. Today, the LCMS celebrates full altar and pulpit fellowship with two church bodies in South Africa, the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa (LCSA) and the Free Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Africa (FELSiSA), and provides financial support and short-term professors in support of pastoral formation through the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Tshwane/Pretoria.
