Project: CE0001-63101
This project supports Mission Field National Pastor Sorin Trifa’s efforts within Romania and with church plants in Eurasia’s Balkan-Pontic Subregion, a mission field which spans the geographic area presently including Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Moldavia, with a goal for further expansion. This is the land in which the Roman Empire existed two millennia ago. It is the land of the Holy Apostles, and a place watered with the blood of the martyrs of Christ in the first Centuries.
But this region is spiritually dominated by churches in which the Gospel of Christ is no longer proclaimed as a means of Grace, but as a tool of the Law. Because of this, millions of Christians in this region live their lives in spiritual despair, trying desperately to find their way to salvation guided by the Law, and not by the Gospel. Rev. Trifa planted the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Romania in Bucharest and later expanded his church plants into Suceava, then Braşov. Through his zeal by the Holy Spirit, Trifa has helped the Eurasia region branch out from Romania to new mission fields further east and south within the Balkan-Pontic sub-region. Now accompanying Trifa’s mission efforts in the region are LCMS missionaries Rev. Dr. David Preus (Regional Director), Associate Regional Director Rev. Charles Ferry, and Rev. Jordon Andreasen. The main objectives include Bible classes and workshops with Ukrainian refugees, translation of sermons into Russian, procuring Russian language Bible class resources, an after-school youth program with the locals in Brașov, and a clothing drive to distribute to poor families on the outskirts of Brașov. Rev. Sorin Trifa regularly makes A7-TV appearances—an opportunity to speak the gospel to more than 200,000 viewers. Soon they will be joined by Ella and Ben Goehring, who will spread the Gospel by teaching English classes. The annual goal and opportunity to connect with this project through a voluntary act of giving is $100,000.
