Learning about Mission from Pre-Reformation Times to Modern-day Czechia

Four LCMS university students hopped on a plane during their spring break to join Chelsea Irwin and Benjamin Helge for a week of mission education in the Czech Republic, February 28 – March 7, 2026. The journey began in Prague, moved out East to Czech Silesia, and ended in Kraków, Poland. Along the way, the group interacted with other LCMS missionaries, learned about OIM’s three pillars, heard stories from the church covering Pre-Reformation time and Jan Hus, the Counter-Reformation and the Moravian Brethren, Communism, and present-day Lutheranism. In local elementary schools, our four volunteers served children and teachers by helping them practice English, offering an after-school program for the students, and sharing the Gospel with them. Our dear Regional Director, David Preus, met the group in Czech Silesia to encourage each volunteer in pursuing long-term missionary service. Join us in thanking God for these volunteers and pray that they would consider long-term missionary service in the Eurasia region or wherever their gifts may best be used.

This is the third year of a Czech Mission Education opportunity for LCMS university students.
