El Salvador
Summary
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began mission work in El Salvador in 1977 with a grant for an education and nutrition project. Since then, Synod’s mercy arm has supported medical care, earthquake relief and disaster preparedness training, agriculture assistance, and sewing and literacy programs for women. No LCMS affiliated congregations or national church have emerged from this limited involvement in the country. Partner churches such as the Lutheran Church in Guatemala have made overtures and attempted limited activity in El Salvador. However, no permanent relationship has emerged.
