Chile

Summary

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod became involved in supporting mission work in Chile in 1960 in Valparaiso, when the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chile, now known as the Confessional Lutheran Church of Chile (ILC-Chile), became a partner church. The ILC-Chile works with the LCMS and other partner church bodies in Latin America to educate pastors and other mission leaders through a Lutheran Bible Institute in Santiago, Chile, and Concordia the Reformer Seminary in the Dominican Republic. ILC-Chile and the LCMS have a collaborative relationship for administering projects and working toward objectives for the region, including missionaries and volunteers supporting a mercy house for young people with disabilities.

Since the late 1990s, LCMS Disaster Response efforts have helped extend the reach of the Gospel. The Confessional Lutheran Church of Chile has ten congregations in Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, and El Maule. In addition, two Lutheran schools in Valparaiso serve over 1000 children.
