As part of the celebration of Reggae Month in 2020, Lutheran Ministries in Jamaica decided to celebrate their children. Pastor Obot Ite, an alliance missionary from Nigeria, who has served in Jamaica for well over a decade, had the idea to work with Parade Gardens Lutheran School to provide opportunities for the children to express their faith during worship services at nearby Faith Lutheran Church.
The very first Lutheran School on the Island of Jamaica was recently dedicated in the impoverished area of downtown Kingston, known as Parade Gardens.
Thanks to Jamaica’s first OIM short-term team, DOWN came a wall in the sanctuary and UP went a drop ceiling in the apartment. Five individuals from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wichita Falls, Texas, labored alongside local plumbers, electricians, and carpenters to bring the multifaceted vision for the building ever closer to reality.
The Rev. Obot Ite, his wife, Abasifreke, and daughter, Goodness, live and
serve in Kingston, Jamaica. Pastor Ite is a rostered minister of the
Lutheran Church of Nigeria, working in Jamaica as an alliance
missionary of The LCMS. He has been on-island for over a decade,
serving the first established mission in Kingston, St. Andrew Lutheran
Church, and working to begin new congregations.
